Rocker N Davis
Rocker 'N' Davis was created by myself (Mike Rocker) and Bert Davis, hence the name. Bert was the guitar player, that I worked with before, in the group called "Wired" (which you see listed here).
It all began, with Bert coming over to my house and we worked on songs, with a drum machine and recorded
them on my 8 track multi-track cassette recorder. Once we had enough songs demo-ed, we went back to Ross's studio "Iguana".
The musicians, that were used were me (Mike Rocker); all vocals, Bert Davis; rhythm and lead guitars, Jim Texiera; rhythm
and lead guitars, Ross Ramsay; bass, Dana Spellman: Drums.
Anyway with this cast of characters we recorded 16 songs. Basic tracks, that is, we still needed to record more guitar parts, solos, piano and of course all vocals. I'm telling you this because, we were unable to finish the project at Iguana, because the
studio closed its doors. We recorded the tracks on the 24 track Adat system. So we had to find another studio, with the compatible equipment.
We recorded stuff at different locations, and each studio closed there doors. We were losing our minds. Because still the project was unfinished. It was a crazy frustrating time, I called everywhere, and everybody. and then one day....
It was crazy, like it feel into my lap. I found a place right around the corner from my house in Pembroke, Mass. The new studio was in the cellar of a house, really nice. We hit pay dirt. He had the Adat system. David Coates engineer, musician extraordinaire, we had found a new home.
So, while we were there, we finished 5 songs. "Don't talk to me", " I don't feel love" "Every bodies got scars" "We don't know(what tomorrow will bring)" "Take what you want".
We physically and mentally had drained ourselves to get to this point. As always, even though you record, life around keeps going. We took a long, long, long break. Bert was happy with the 5 songs. I wasn't. As time went on, this project was never going to get done unless, I made it happen.
What I realized was that the recordings we made on the Adat system, might be lost. The Adat system were hi-fi super deluxe tape, even though it was recorded in this digital format. It was still tape. And anybody who knows anything knows that tape degrades after awhile. So the next chapter came....

In the interim, I asked a fellow musician/friend, David Lussier, if he could help me. He had just finished recording school and was available. So he all the music from that Adats to DVD, thus saving, what we had put down on tape. I could see from the casings, that there was mold growing. NFG.
So then, Bert and I found a new home. We would go over to Dave's little tight santuary, and work on the songs, Bert added guitars and solo's and piano, but mainly, I went over there to sing, in the closet. After a drawn out process, 3 more songs were done, "Let it go" "Ain't no lie" and "Black Sunday".
I started working on "Cat got your tongue" & "Look but don't touch" at Dave's, but as his legs got better,(from an motorcycle accident) he went back to making more money driving a truck. So again, here we are with no studio.
Again, I searched high and lo, and behold, I was at my old stomping grounds "Iguana", but this time the old place, had a facelift. No Adats, more space and everything recorded on computer. Now that it was called " The CD Workshop". The man in charge was Bill Eagan.
So as I am typing this it looks like "Cat got your tongue" & "Look but don't touch" will finally see the light of day. At this time, they are soon to be mixed. That will bring the total to 10 songs done. And now, that I'm in that studio, I intend to finish this
project. Even, if it kills me. |
